The plague is back in the form of fakes again. Poor, Rolex is always getting hit with the rash of fakes and now it is out again with the new style Submariner! Pictured is a fake Rolex with a fake ceramic bezel, fake big lugs and fake, fake, fake. It gets old, indeed and the junk dealers keep it right on coming. Look out for extra large etched crown indicators, poorly adjusted bezels, even poor springbars can tip off a fake. Arggghhhh! CTWG.

Sometimes, you run into some brands that your friends have not heard of and they are not really on the compass of many watch collectors. Don’t let this discourage you from picking up a cool piece from time to time. Many small watch outfits can produce some outstanding pieces that are a fraction of the price you would pay for a real “recognized” brand. Nomos, RGM, Luminox etc. all have some fun watches that can fit the bill if trying to save a couple bucks. On this years trip to Basel I will highlight some of these “Off Brands” . CTWG

George Daniels long time watch maker and well known inventor of the Co-Axial escapement has passed away on the date of Oct, 21 2011. He was a well decorated watch maker that had his “claim to fame” producing watches and specialty escapements for Omega. A brief video below shows the working of the Co-axial escapement just one of his many creations. He will be a missed figure in the watch community. CTWG

So the large watch craze is gone? Wrong, big watches keep popping up and the guys that like them keep requesting the Tuna Can style to return! Check the Tissot Seastar, monster size and cool light blue accents make it a great watch for active guys. Tissot went for the ETA C01.211(Piggy Back Style Chrono) a less expensive chrono option to make this piece work at a $1200.00 price point. Well it is funny how things can go full circle, Tiger is now an Ambassador for Rolex? Tiger cut his teeth with Tudor the sister Rolex company, jumped ship to Tag Heuer. He then had some problems “Cough”, lost the Tag account and went underground for a bit with sponsorship dollars. Why did big poppa Rolex bring the bad boy of golf back? It seems a bit risky to me, but morally I will sit the fence and see where he goes in the future. I hope the best for him and if I were a betting man my guess would be that takes full advantage of his new lease on life. CTWG
