There has been some excellent entries into the Omega line, the Basel Seamaster Chronograph “Race” with the column wheels have made their way to the case, and my personal favorite the new Aqua Terra GMT with the Omega caliber 8605 with the double barrels and the first of the 8500′series to sport the GMT function. The Race comes in at a modest 40mm and the Aqua Terra GMT a little more bold at 43mm. Both are excellent pick ups, and a great edition to any collection. Remember the jump in movement quality is quite substantial and the price points are in that range now also. The race is $4700.00 and the GMT is $7900.00, be good to your Valentine. CTWG

George Daniels long time watch maker and well known inventor of the Co-Axial escapement has passed away on the date of Oct, 21 2011. He was a well decorated watch maker that had his “claim to fame” producing watches and specialty escapements for Omega. A brief video below shows the working of the Co-axial escapement just one of his many creations. He will be a missed figure in the watch community. CTWG

Well, some people have tried to make a white watch that POPS! Most have failed and others fall flat with the attempt. Our goods friends at Oris, known primarily for Gents and tool style watches, hit the mark with this over-sized ladies piece! This timepiece will proudly push the white for spring and get the respect of the watch culture, all with one swing of the wrist. Depth is the key! The dial drops a bit with the white to make it right! Enjoy ladies! CTWG

(Front: Fake Planet Ocean 45mm. Back: The real deal!) This Orange Bezel Planet Ocean came across my case the other day ago and I had to take a second close look, before knowing it was a FAKE!  Be very careful with second hand purchases, the Omega fake products are outstanding (In a Bad way).  Look at the overall appearance of the piece, not your average junk fake. It appears these are still produced in China, Thailand etc., but they have pushed the bar a bit!  Have an authorized watch guy look at a purchase when second hand, you may take the plunge on some of these new Planet Ocean fakes! Sometimes it appears that you have the world by the tail on a down hill haul and then it backfires on you? Panerai watches case in point, had one of the hottest watches on the market for years and now has taken a huge plummet down the watch scale ranks. Why? First, production, scarcity sells watches. The fewer watches you have out on the market (that have desirability) the better. From it’s meager beginnings till now Panerai has probably quadrupled its production. Secondly, change, it can be good and bad. New bracelet styles and mass production techniques brought about by this brand really have hurt them. Thirdly, collect ability, aspects of the line that made Panerai special are still there, but a solid 18k gold watch with a ETA 6497 display back do not make things special. So what we have learned, less is more, don’t cheapen your product and

Are you a lover of James Bond and the watches he wore for the acclaimed movies? Well, your in luck! Our friends at National Clock and watch Museum have a display up until April, 2011 highligting that very thing BOND WATCHES! So if you make rounds in the central Pennsylvania area, stop by. “James Bond is a fictional character, but his wristwatches are real. With a continuous history dating back to the early 1950s, Agent 007 is an ideal center for a collection that includes several different brands, first-of-a-kind technologies, and an examination of the style trends that often define who we are by what we wear. Gadgets aside, these timekeepers also make for fantastic storytelling. Consistently, they pit hero against the most unrelenting adversary of all: The clock, fate of the world hanging on mere seconds left before mission success. James Bond watches are invariably at the center of

Longines puts it on the line! Swatch brand longiness has launched an official on-line store? Seems to be the thing to do, but is it the way of the future? Probably not, watch companies really are not trying to sell watches on-line for the most part. They could sell some pieces and it is easy to launch, still they want to highlight product, have you look at it and push you to a dealer for real service. Trending in this direction will continue, read more at Wristwatchreview.com.CTWG

“Bring us to your watches” the Koboldians cry, after a long trip from Kentucky to Pittsburgh, PA. Kobold watch fans Chris and Jeff Wheeler made the trip and brought their Father to see an actual Kobold dealer in person and paw some watches. After a stop at Henne Jewelers they were off to the Mothership Kobold Watch Co. More sightings and details of their trip to follow! CTWG

See enlarged version See restored version. Okay, so a guy on vacation looses a gifted G.M.T. Master while swimming in Half Moon Bay, Antigua. The lost watch takes up residence on the ocean floor for two years thrashing to and fro. Along swims a Frenchman, who finds the watch on his dive. In a fine demonstration of upstanding character, he returns it to Rolex London. Rolex London consults the Rolex service records and discovers the original buyer was the swimmer’s brother. They contact the brother. In another display of upstanding character, the big brother has the watch re-conditioned and re-gifts it back to his brother with a little sage advice, “Don’t lose it this time.” Check out the before/after pics folks; the G.M.T. doesn’t even have the triple lock crown and the movement is perfect.
